Contractors Looking for an Umbrella Company Beware!

A lot of contractors worried about IR35 are using umbrella companies rather than taking the risks and hassle of using their own limited company (myself included). If you're looking into this option, a word of advice.

Not all umbrellas are the same - some will leave you regretting the decision. I used one called Prosperity4 for a few months, and in my opinion they are a terrible choice. Don't just take my word for it; check out blagger.com - the opinions voiced there by roughly 15 people (and growing) is typical of my own experience with this company. What alarms me is that they're on the PCG's recommended list - don't let that fool you into thinking they're worth a try!

I'm currently with Platinum Umbrella, and they have been friendly, responsive, efficient, and good value for money - everything that Prosperity4 is not.
